CU Notified of Third-Party Vendor Data Breach
Cameron University was notified by the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) of a recent data breach. An unauthorized party obtained files from within the NSC systems that may have contained information from current and former Cameron students. The issue stems from a vulnerability in a software tool called MOVEit Transfer that the NSC uses to transfer data.
Although Cameron University does not use the MOVEit Transfer tool and Cameron’s I.T. systems were not affected by the breach, the U.S. Department of Education requires that Cameron, along with 3600 other colleges and universities nationwide, provide student enrollment data to the NSC.
The NSC is investigating to determine the extent of the breach, but has rectified the vulnerability with MOVEit and is working with law enforcement and third-party security experts to determine what records and individuals were affected.
Cameron is committed to protecting the privacy of student information and takes this matter very seriously so we are providing this notice directly to you. Cameron University personnel will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as we receive them.
